Student Resources

Student Resources

The following resources are available at the New Providence Campus. Students should contact the Northern Bahamas Campus for details regarding available resources on campus.

Bookstore
The bookstore is centrally located next to the cafeteria. It sells textbooks required for all BTVI courses as well as school supplies and imprinted clothing.

BTVI Childcare Centre
BTVI recognises that many students may be parents of young children and may need help with childcare to achieve their technical and vocational educational goals. BTVI offers childcare for children aged 18 months to five years, free of cost, to BTVI students while they are in class or engaged in on-campus activities. Students who stop attending or fail to enrol in classes are not eligible for free childcare. Also, childcare is available to BTVI staff and faculty for a nominal fee. Interested parents must register with the centre to reserve a space. Early registration is important; space is limited so children are accepted on a “first come, first served” basis. Located in FF1, the centre is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday.

Cafeteria
Food service is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm. A variety of meal items are offered such as sandwiches, daily specials and pastries.

Campus Clinic
The Campus Clinic is open to all BTVI students free of charge. Located in R2, the clinic is staffed by two Registered Nurses, one full-time and one part-time, with specialised training in Preventative Healthcare. The nurses provide initial care for minor illnesses and injuries and follow-up care for more serious conditions. Services also include counseling on health-related issues and referrals to other health care facilities/professionals when necessary. In the event of an on-campus emergency, the clinic will contact a family member and an ambulance provider, if necessary. Students will be billed directly for ambulance services. Covered under the student accident plan at BAF, all students are encouraged to visit the clinic to obtain their insurance ID.

The clinic is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and is closed on weekends and public holidays. First aid kits are available at various locations throughout the campus.

Campus Security
BTVI strives to provide a safe and secure campus. Campus security personnel ensure the safety of BTVI students and staff and help protect BTVI property. All students are required to respect the authority of campus security personnel and follow their directives. Students who do not comply will be subject to disciplinary action which could include suspension or expulsion from BTVI. Security officers are available 24/7; that is, every day, all day, including weekends and holidays.

Computer Facility/Resource Centre
To help meet the needs of students who may not have access to a home computer, BTVI provides access to computer labs on campus. The facility supports all areas of instruction by providing print and electronic resources (books, journals, trade related magazines, computers and internet). It provides a quiet, comfortable and safe environment in which students can study and do internet-based research for their courses. Students are encouraged to invest in their own personal headphones so as not to disturb others who may be using the facility.

Located in DD1, this resource is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with extended evening hours during scheduled examination periods. Flexible scheduling permits individuals and groups to use the facility as needed. All users must sign the daily log.

Student Success Learning Centre (SSLC)
BTVI provides students with free academic support services through the Student Success Learning Centre. As a supplement to classroom instruction, the centre offers a variety of programmes and services to facilitate student success in basic Mathematics and English, Workforce Preparation and Study Skills. In addition to computer assisted instructions, the centre offers tutoring and peer coaching and provides an environment in which students, instructors and staff collaborate to facilitate student success. Located in the M-Block, SSLC is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
